FREESTYLE GAME

If you came up in the era when lyrics mattered, you’re going to love this. Freestyle Mode is where SAYWORD! meets the spirit of true MCing—off-the-top, wordplay-heavy, and rooted in rhyme.

Inspired by legends like Common, Black Thought, and KRS-One, this mode lets you flex your improvisational skills and pay homage to the golden age of hip-hop while building your own lyrical arsenal.

OBJECTIVE: Score as many points as possible by creating an improvised rap or poem using words that contain the morphemes from the cards you draw before making a mistake or pausing too long.

HOW TO PLAY:

1. Play an instrumental of your choice (optional but encouraged).
2. Draw a card from the SAYWORD! deck.
3. Freestyle a line of poetry or rap that uses a word containing the morpheme on the card.
   Example: If your card says PORT, your line might include import, transport, or deport.
4. If you draw a wild card, draw again and multiply the second card’s value by the wild card’s multiplier (2X or 3X).
5. Keep the card after each successful bar and continue freestyling as you draw new cards—build your verse line by line.
6. A miss happens if you:

• Pause more than 5 seconds 
• Use a non-existent word (not in our approved dictionaries)
• Give up

SCORING AND WINNING:

Count the points from your collected cards after each round. After 5 rounds, the player with the highest score wins!
